I met both Budge and Bette in the hot tub at Dick and Jonne Markham’s house in 1980…I think. Janet Markham invited me. It was my first time in a hot tub…when they were a big deal. I was 28 and I am sure there were mimosas. I felt like a little kid playing with the grownups. They were a blast! Janet asked Budge if he’d write her a recommendation for Thunderbird Graduate School. He said he’d be happy to write something fluffy. Bette said, “You’d better make it good!” I guess it was.
